Radio

Volunteering on PCRFM was a fantastic experience for me, and I learnt so much about radio, live sound mixing and presenting.

For the first year and a half, I sat behind a sound desk as artists came to perform live on the show. Even though I learnt so much about the technical aspect (mixing, microphone placement, etc...), I also began to learn so much about presenting and hosting through listening to the main presenter speak every week. In addition, I heard so many stories from small local artists about what it is like in the industry, and just how hard it is to "make it".

For the other year and a half, I co-presented the show with the main presenter, and used Myriad to control the show in the radio room while the main presenter was in the "Live Room" interviewing with the artists. The COVID-19 pandemic meant that we could not all be in the radio room at the same time, so we had to spread out and use both rooms to continue doing the show. This is where I began to learn how to present, research and control a radio desk at the same time.

2019-2021

Recording

Stamford College gave me the opportunity to record many bands and artists during my time there. In this process, I found that my specialty was recording vocals. Being a singer and musician myself helped me to understand what got the best performances out of artists, and I used this to my advantage when recording.

KONTAKT instrument

For my second year final project at Stamford College, I pushed myself out of my comfort zone, and combined many disciplines to create a "nightmare machine", record the sounds and create a KONTAKT instrument that is now avaliable to purchase online.

Live Sound/Presenting

At Stamford College's "Battle Of The Bands 2020", I not only presented the show, but also was the sound technician for my assigned band called "Who is Joe?".

Women In Music Zine

For my final project in the first year of college, I created a zine about women in music technology. Unfortunately, in the audio engineering and music technology industry, there are far more men than women working in this sector. In 2022, Ofqual reported that only 24% of music technology A level students were female, but some reports say that the number of women working in the music tech industry is as low as 5%.

I was lucky enough to interview Marta Salogni and Ewa Justka for this project and include their interview in my zine. The difference in their takes on women in the music technology industry made for a very interesting report, but unfortunately, due to the pandemic, my zine was never published due to my lack of access to college campus resources.

2021-2023

Podcast Society

In my first year of University, I was chair of the podcast society at ARU. Even though we never released a podcast, we did train a lot of students how to create a podcast and use podcasting equipment. This is where I learnt to produce a podcast and how to distribute one too. Unfortunately due to lack of interest, the podcast society ended in my second year at ARU.

Performance

In my first and second year of university, I also performed at several university events in a band as the lead singer. I chose not to continue with this in my final year at ARU to have more time for my studies, but it was a fun experience and hobby to do alongside my coursework. I feel that being a performer helps you be a better live sound engineer, and the same is true the other way round as well!

Sound and Vision 2022

In 2022, I went to the "Sound and Vision" festival in Cambridge in partnership with ARU and conducted podcast interviews with the guests that were speaking that day. I didn't expect to present the Keynote talk, but when I was asked I of course said yes, and I went on stage to interviewed Nat Powers.

Sound and Vision 2023

Having done the keynote talk the previous year, I got asked to do it again in 2023, and had the pleasure of interviewing Grace and Nick Capaldi from EchoTown Studios in Dorset. I also conducted short instagram reel interviews with guests throughout the day to later post to social media.

Sharps Redmore Award

In 2022, Sharps Redmore Acoustic Consultancy (in partnership with ARU) awarded me for my acoustics coursework that I completed in year one of university. I had the pleasure of meeting company director Nick Durup, and even doing a podcast with him which is avaliable on YouTube. Many thanks to Sharps Redmore once again for this award.

ARU Recogniton

My award from Sharps Redmore then went on to be recognised by the University and was presented to me at the end of my second year at the 2023 graduate's award ceremony.

Projects Coming Soon

Agent Ark

I am currently working on the music for a video game called "Agent Ark", which will be released in 2024. The game is based on a secret agent infiltrating climate impaction sites to save endangered animals in need.

Women In Stem Steering Group at ARU

This year I am thrilled to be part of the women in STEM steering group at ARU. I am excited to see where this project will take me, especially as this topic is so close to my heart.
